Visiting: Chao Phraya River, Wat Arun, Grand Palace and Wat Pho

Duration: 3 hours

Dubbed the “Venice of the East” in the 18th century because of its sprawling canal system, many of the settlements along Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River still retain this yesteryear charm. This day trip is the ideal opportunity to witness the traditional Rattanakosin period architecture that has been preserved along its banks, take in the peaceful riverside atmosphere, and explore the local life that exists between its beautiful temples.

The most famous temple on the Chao Phraya River is undoubtedly Wat Arun, also known as the “Temple of Dawn”. It lies on the western bank of the river, and its colorfully decorated spires make it one of the city’s most spectacular, particularly when the first rays of light hit its surface in the morning.

You can take the steep staircase to climb up the central spire if you wish, with beautiful views out across the Chao Phraya River, as well as the Grand Palace and Wat Pho on the opposite bank. Admire the Chinese sculptures along the tower’s base, then head into the Ordination Hall where detailed murals adorn the walls and a golden Buddha image can be seen.

Food/Beverage

Lunch is not included in the cost of the tour. We will suggest options for local Thai restaurants and provide ample time for you to have a sit-down lunch.

Dress

Because Wat Arun is a sacred place, be sure to dress appropriately, with covered shoulders and knees. Alternatively, you can rent a cover-up near the entrance to the temple.
